More charges laid against suspect for multiple apartment fires and burglaries

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) — A Wichita Falls man suspected of burglarizing four apartments and subsequently setting them on fire is now facing new charges.

David Wayne Cannon, 31, was initially charged with two counts of burglary of a home. Wichita Falls police say one of those charges was ruled a first-degree felony since he later burned down the apartment.

Cannon now faces four more charges of home burglary, two of which are upgraded to first-degree felonies.

Of the four new charges, WFPD officials said the charges involving the fires occurred in September and November 2021 at Waterford Glen Apartments and Arbor Creek Apartments. The other two burglaries took place in December 2021 at Mustang Village Apartments and Waterford Glen Apartments.

Cannon was arrested Wednesday on two unrelated counts, and the WFPD said he later confessed to committing the burglaries and setting fire to the apartments. Police say Cannon became a person of interest after he allegedly pawned items matching the description of property stolen in the break-ins.

A search warrant was also executed at Cannon’s home, where detectives reportedly found other property stolen from the apartments.

His total bond now sits at just over $900,000.
