San Juan’s St. Regis Bahia Beach Rolls Out New Luxury Perks

It’s time you started treating San Juan like Reykjavik. Don’t just hover — stop and stay a while.

Throughout the winter, laden travelers flock to St. Barts on charter puddle jumpers that depart from St. Maarten or San Juan. Most travelers never leave the airport during their transfer. But they should.

San Juan is the perfect stay for a two or three night stopover. Its colorful, bustling, and increasingly hip old town is one of the best in the Americas.

But St. Barts-minded sophisticates need not get bogged down here. The city also has one of the best resorts in the world: the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort – a perfect appetizer for those heading to more exclusive islands.

The St. Regis is a 30-minute drive along the coast from the airport through undeveloped seaside farmland, where it sprawls over 483 acres of estate land filled with palm trees and iguanas.

A former plantation—whose historic home is now the central lobby, restaurant, bar, and champagne-sipping destination for the resort—today the resort is all about play, not work.

The hotel’s pool is massive and divided by miniature pathways and waterfalls, a creative layout that gives everyone their space. The rooms are arranged in small clusters along jungle-like paths. The service is the St. Regis gold standard.

But high-profile families looking to supplement their island joys with peaceful nights before or after the revelry of St. Barts’ yacht party will want to book the resort’s newest product: Casa Estancias.

Opened in November, the unique beachfront estate that sleeps 10 has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a large kitchen, dining room, cinema room, outdoor terrace with a saltwater pool, a summer kitchen, a lounge area and a large lawn. lawn that leads directly to a 2 mile private beach.

With such a large bedroom, a full-time butler, daily housekeeping, and full access to resort amenities (including the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed oceanfront golf course, spa, and gym Iridium sports, the tennis club, the boathouse with water sports) is a must.

It will set you back $30,000 per night – which is (try not to gasp) probably a lot cheaper than your St. Barths villa rental.

Culture junkies will appreciate another artistic addition to the station: four large-scale bronze sculptures by renowned Latin American artist Fernando Botero.

“Donna su Cavallo”, one of the artist’s most famous sculptures, now greets guests at the entrance to Bahia Beach Park. Again at the rotunda just down the long entrance road, “The Rape of Europe” awaits (time to brush up on your mythology).

Then take a tip from “Woman lying with fruit”. who greets guests as they arrive in the lobby of the Casa Grande and sets the mood. Presiding over the Porte Cochere is “Leda and the Swan” – no need to explain this one to the kids.

If Botero tempts you to cheat on your diet, the resort also has a permanent collection of Spanish art, made up of a mix of new and established artists. including Héctor Méndez Caratini, Rafael Ferrer, Jorge Zeno, Luis Torruella and many more.

The newest of all resorts helps mind meet body with elemental themed experiences.

Launching in February, guests will be able to experience “water” inspired activities that include pool parties, art installations and water sports. In March, the theme is “fire” – think flaming cocktails, romantic fireside dinners by the brasa, and fireside festivities). It will be followed by “earth” and “air” months.

After all, everyone needs a break between flights.
