Sindh government revises winter vacation schedule

The Interior Ministry of the Sindh government has called on all educational institutions – public and private – in the province to begin winter holidays from January 3, in accordance with directives from the National Command and Control Center. operation (NCOC).

The provincial government has sent a letter to all schools, colleges and universities asking them to follow NCOC guidelines for winter vacations.

The home ministry has asked educational institutions to revise their winter vacation schedules again.

Earlier, the provincial government announced the winter vacation from December 20 to January 1. The government announced the decision on December 9 after a meeting the subcommittee held before the NCOC even agreed on a date.

Friday [December 17], the NCOC announced that winter vacations at educational institutions were to begin from Jan. 3, except for districts across the country affected by fog and smog.

The meeting chaired by NCOC Chief Asad Umar discussed postponement of educational institutions’ winter vacations with Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mehmood, SAPM Health Dr Faisal Sultan and all other stakeholders present. .

A few days earlier, on December 14, Shafqat Mehmood announced the start of winter holidays from December 25 across the country. But the NCOC meeting called for the vacation to be postponed to the second or third week of January so that the ongoing vaccination campaign in educational institutions is over.

The NCOC has highlighted the acceleration of the vaccination campaign at educational institutions as millions of students remain unvaccinated with data suggesting children are susceptible to widespread infection. Additionally, the NCOC encouraged parents to immunize their children to protect them and those around them.

In the Punjab, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the closure of educational institutions from December 23 to January 4, overturning the NCOC’s decision. Acting on the order, the provincial Minister of Education Murad Raas announced that the winter holidays will take place from December 23 to January 04.

The LHC delivered the order during a smog case hearing and said the decision to close the schools was made taking into account the dangerous effects of smog in the city.
