Hot on the heels of HBO’s first record of game of thrones prequel, Dragon HousePrime Video is rolling out its highly anticipated fantasy drama, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, this week. No comparison here other than this is another visually stunning series with epic storytelling. and a huge budget to bring it to life.
But if period fantasy dramas aren’t your thing, or even if they are, there are plenty of other new shows worthy of your attention. Hallmark’s Mahogany card brand is coming to Hallmark’s Movies & Mysteries channel with original made-for-TV movies. The first standing: Incredibly good thingswhich begins tonight and is a joyful way to pass your time.
There is also US national parks, airing for five nights on NatGeo. The docuseries is just another reminder of the sanctity of our planet. Yes, I know you know this, but you can’t help but be swept away by the breathtaking beauty of these parks and the quest for survival of the wildlife that call them home.
On the romantic comedy side, Love at the Villa on Netflix will transport you to Italy, or at least inspire your next vacation. If you are looking for something with more drama, then the bachelorette took care of that with “Men Tell All” this week. There’s plenty more to watch ahead of the Labor Day holiday (including the great Sterling K. VMA (MTV): The VMAs are back in New Jersey at the Prudential Center, hosted by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow. Nicki Minaj will perform and receive the Video Vanguard Award, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers will receive the Global Icon Award (they will also perform). Other artists scheduled include Lizzo, Blackpink, Måneskin, Jack Harlow, Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At the disco.
Lil Nas X, Kendrick Lamar and Jack Harlow lead the nominations with seven each, while Doja Cat and Harry Styles have six, followed by Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd with five.
And hard to believe, but nearly a decade ago the VMAs came to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Take a look at this throwback video we made and see how many famous faces you spot.
